Aha I know, for me a bad time of year for it to come out, wish it was coming out in the summer.

Way too addictive a game, apparently there's been a mod out for ages to up the resolution for widescreen displays but even so, looks like they redid a few textures and animations as well.

Can't wait for this. I still have the conqueror's expansion on disk but I'll probably buy it on Steam just for the HD anyway! What a game.

I would advise you all not to get it.
I don't want you all crying on these forums when I kick your rear ends in the game.

Just hope they do that same with AOE I/ROR.

Just so there is no doubt, I used to be ranked in the top #100 on both AOE I and AOE II :)

Pshhh, who says I'll be playing online? I used to hate it online, probably because it was such a pain in the bum getting it to work properly back then on my dial up connection x) No wonder you managed to get into the top 100! All you needed was a working internet connection.

I just have fond memories of playing LAN with my brother, black forest, build 10 layers of walls at each entrance, don't use siege weapons, cut your way into the opposition bases! Muhahaha.

I loved black forest :)

I could live in those forests for days.. I think my longest match was AI 8 players, huge black forest no siege and it took about 6hours :D

Cant beat those teutonic knights though :)

Indeed! They were the original Chuck Norris's!

I also liked the Great Britain map on the expansion. Loved the real world aspect and would always transport villagers over to Ireland straight away to turn it into farmland. Was great fun.

One of the things I used to love about AoE games was the bonkers cheats you could use.

"e=mc2 trooper" is one of my favourite cheats in the history of PC gaming :)

(Soldiers with big ol' nuke weapon tearing into those pesky Romans...yarrr :D )

Hey everyone,
I dont post much but I check the forums at least once a day!

I just wanted to ask if anyone remembers that user created map for AoE where there was a "Shop" Player and 4 other players competing each other. the only resource you had to collect was gold and you purchased stuff from the shop owner, I think that was my favourite map! oh wait there was another one where you started with 7 castles I think and the more kills you got, you got certain bonuses... anyone remember those?

I don't remember those but like I said, back then I didn't really get into the whole online/custom thing! I remember Gold Rush but I think that was a standard map wasn't it? Where you started in the corners and there was a ton of gold dumped in the middle?

yea that was just that map,
this time round you should check out the online scene if you can, it gets your heart racing when you know you are about to win =D

My problem was I always preferred building my resources than the actual fighting. I was one of those people who had max population and 75% of it was villagers! I always found the fighting to be quite tame, especially when the likes of Lotr: Battle for middle earth came out where horses could actually trample and stuff. And also Stronghold where arrows could actually kill infantry in 1 or 2 hits rather than the 50 it used to take on AoE! I may check it out online this time round, I can just see me sat there having sweating fits all the time x)

Maybe I should start playing Civ5 if I like resources more than fighting... I never really gave that game a chance.

Civ5 is worse in that aspect if you ask me. The AI at any difficulty level worth playing will attack you within the first 60 turns and you have to be able to defend against that at least. You just have to be able to progress at all fronts that the game offers at the same time. Focusing towards a particular strength also helps. I think thats the same for all RTS

Anyone know what time of day Steam early releases go live? I'm like a little kid at Christmas here. :D
