Parallel processing (R, Matlab) and general use

I have a budget around 1000, though willing to go up a few hundred pounds for a PC that will last a long time for what I need. I use the PC for general purposes- email, video streaming, music etc and a number of apps, also intensive use for parallel programming- especially in R, for simulations with millions of iterations spread over 4 cores (or as many as the PC has). I do not know much about PC specs, or how to choose RAM CPU etc for optimal performance- I have a spec I put together- any suggestions on changes?
