Power cable query re: ASUS TUF 4090 OG OC adapter alternative

Hi, I will be upgrading to an ASUS TUF 4090 OG OC and my PSU is the Corsair RM1000e. Corsair make and sell an alternative to the adapter called a “600W PCle 5.0 12VHPWR Type-4 PSU Power Cable” they market it as “Connect PCle 5.0 GPUs (Nvidia 4000 series) up to 600W TDP”. I thought I could buy this cable and send it in with my PC for upgrade as an alternative to the adapter. My case is small, it’s an TD500 Mesh and if the adapter is stiff I worry there could be an issue getting the glass panel back on without causing strain on the socket. I take the panel on and off a lot to remove dust. I contacted customer service to ask if I bought the cable from Corsair could I send it in for use with the new 4090 as it would be more flexible but they said “unfortunately it is not possible to fit the GPU without the power cable as it could cause a fire and explode your GPU.” I assume he meant the adapter when he said cable. I can’t see anyone online who has ever had a fire due to the corsair cable and the early melting issues seem to have been blamed on the adapter and poor socketing by individuals. My question is was the customer service guy right? That cable is labelled as “best seller” on the Corsair website. It’s also my understanding that the cable in question is now shipped with all new Corsair PSU’s for use with 40 series cards. I’m a bit confused and just thought someone might be able to help,
Many thanks in advance

Is this a pcspecialist system?

Can you post your full specs from the order page?

What is it you use the PC for?

What make and model monitor are you using?

Hi, yes it’s a PCSpecialist custom build from October 2022 (specs below), I use it for gaming in 4K, VR sim racing, I play fps games like COD but also RPG’s, Souls like, mixed bag really, and want to learn how to mod games like Starfield, Fallout etc via tools like creation kit and do a little 3d objects creation work to go along side that. I’m going for a 4090 as I love playing on max settings but my frame rate is only 20-40 fps at certain times in Starfield on max settings, and I would love to be able to turn ray tracing on in every game. Also planning to upgrade RAM and 2nd SSD card for more storage, anyway here’s the specs from the order page:

The low FPS in starfield is more likely a RAM bottleneck and then writing to the page file which will slow it down enormously. The CPU as well is less than ideal, remember, Starfield is not a high FPS game, it's not expected to get high frames, they wouldn't benefit anything. If you can manage 60 then that should be grand.

Regarding the adapter cable, the 12VHPWR was replaced as it was found to be substandard. The newer version is the 12V-2x6

Also, if you've still got norton installed that will be causing issues.

Yes I do have Norton installed, didn’t realise that was prob causing problems, thank you for the heads up I’l try a with/without comparison, what cpu would you recommend for the kind of use my pc gets, I could upgrade that a little if it would help. Ram wise steam said creation kit needs a minimum of 32 but recommends 45GB so I was going to upgrade to 64GB so hopefully that will help all round

I have the same Type 4 cable on my 4090FE, with a ATX3/PCIE5 1500w HXi PSU, and using it makes the GPU much cleaner than the mess of cables I had with my old RM1000 ATX2/PCIE4 (3 from the PSU into 2:1 cables into the GPU).

Seemed no stiffer than the ones that I took off the old PSU.

Reply, thank you that’s good to hear, up until now I had been just trying to work out from YT installation video’s how bendy various cables were, thanks again

You can't uninstalled Norton through windows, you have to use their official uninstaller

This will make an enormous difference, at the moment you're far too low for a lot of the titles you're playing

Leave the CPU until you've done those upgrades and then see how it's performing.
