Looking to purchase my first proper machine. I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Book 3 but that wasnt powerful enough. So am here and have put together the following:

My main uses for this is that i am currently learning C++ and Unreal Engine 5 for game development and want something that can handle that but also want to use for pleasure, the odd game etc.

I am looking to hook this up to my dual monitor system via HDMI using a KVM too.


Does the above look doable. Please let me know what you think.

What monitors are you using, which one will be for gaming on?

With UE and any sort of graphic work you're going to want a decent GPU but the monitor will help narrow it down a bit.

One of them I got from Amazon, just a standard monitor for work. The one I use for gaming is a curved 24" Samsung monitor

4070Ti would offer a lot more rendering & gaming grunt but it takes you a fair bit over budget. Worth knowing that the rest of the system is designed to handle anything up to and including the 4080 level of GPU. So come upgrade time it'll be good to go.

With the CPU it's a toss up. You get more cores with the 7900 for helping with rendering etc. The 7800X3D would be the go-to for more of a gaming aspect though. You drop some cores and some clock performance but you gain the best gaming grunt available. Either or are fine choices so just something to consider.

I've had a it a few years

They're not really for gaming so you'll be fine with any GPU really. I opted for the 4060Ti due to the vRAM. It'll handle 1080p no problem, especially at that FPS. You really should upgrade though, even a 1440p monitor would make a massive difference to workspace. 4k is the typical choice nowadays though. You wouldn't be gaming at 4k, but at least for productivity it would make a big difference.

It's a fair shout, I think vRAM would be more important though. No harm in it if you think you'll definitely use it, otherwise it's a waste.
