Touchpad jumpy/erratic

My son has a 6-year-old Laptop built by PCSPECIALIST.

It is still working fine and does what he wants it to do.

Unfortunately, just lately the touchpad has become unresponsive and jumpy. opening apps willy nilly.

He has tried to update the driver, but it did not help. It just said the best driver is already installed.

What else can he try?

If it hasn't been done already, a clean install of Windows will tell you if it's a software issue. Clean install only takes 30 minutes, it's very easy.

Thanks for the reply.

My son is not very computer wise.

Is there something I could download or copy and paste for him how to reinstall Windows?

It is his work computer, so he be scared to loose anything important.

Has your son installed drivers (especially graphics drivers) from anywhere other than the PCS account for this laptop? With laptops drivers (especially graphics drivers) are often customised for power-saving and operational reasons - the iGPU and dGPU work hand-in-hand for example - and generic drivers (such as those from Intel and Nvidia), which do not contain those customisations, may cause problems.

Can you open Device Manager and post a screenshot of that display. Also open Windows Updates, navigate to optional updates and post a screenshot of the driver updates in there. Also, Open Task Manage, navigate to the Startup tab and post a screenshot of that display.

If your son has external devices plugged in then please unplug them, reboot and see whether the problem persists.

Thank you for helping.

My son has not installed any drivers from anywhere other than the PCS or has any external devices plugged in.

I helped him (over the phone) to uninstall/reinstall the driver of the touchpad. Hopefully it will help.

He says the unresponsive and jumping appears in the afternoon after extensive usage,

He is away at the moment with the laptop, so I can’t send you any screenshots as yet.
