Building a New PC in 2025 – What Should I Not Overlook?

Hey everyone,

I'm in the early stages of planning a new PC build for 2025 and wanted to hear what you’d consider must-haves or easy-to-overlook components.
Obviously looking at CPU, GPU, and RAM, but what about the smaller (but crucial) stuff—like airflow, PSU quality, BIOS features, or cable management tools?
Also wondering if AI-integrated motherboards or newer SSD formats are worth it yet. I've been browsing a bit, but Google can only get me so far—figured this community would have way better real-world insights.

Would love to hear what you’d do differently if you were starting a build today.

Thanks in advance!

These forums are for PCSpecialist systems only which are custom designed, so we can only advise on PCSpecialist stuff if that’s what you’re looking for? There is no such thing as “AI integrated” on desktop, only on low power APUs and SOCs which tend to be on mobile devices

Case, fans and cooler are all important in keeping temps under control…and the case is usually the component that gets overlooks as it‘s ‘just a box’.

PSU can be complicated, because you’ve got to consider the power rating, duty cycle, efficiency and ATX spec.

Of course budget can affect every part of a build, and I’d rather tell someone to go away and save more than configure something that will need building from scratch when a simple GPU upgrade is needed.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘newer SSD formats’ as NVMe is not ‘new’ and I don’t know of any holographic crystal storage options on the market
