High spec desktop for Ableton Live 8.xx audio production software

Hi all,

I'm speccing up a desktop to run Ableton Live 8.xx for audio production. Some questions I'd like advice on, please.

I'm going for an i7-2600 3.4GHz on the ASUS P8H67 M-ATX with SATA 6Gb/s mobo

-- does this mean that it can use a 6Gb/s HDD, as I want to use 2 drives, one at 3Gb/s (programs), and one at 6Gb/s (samples) Barracuda SATA-III

I'm opting for the Super Quiet 22dBa fan

-- will I need to spec a bigger PSU than the standard 350W model?

-- I don't do any gaming and Ableton graphics are basic so can I get away with the integrated graphics accelerator, or should I opt for a basic graphics card like the 512Mb Nvidia GeForce 210?

-- Can 24" 1920x1080 monitors have a resolution higher than 1920x1080 (depending on the graphics card????)

Many thanks for any advice you can offer.

Cheers, Bruce.

Yes, that motherboard will support 6BG/s HDDs.
You will need a bigger PSU as that is quite a meaty processor and I assume you will have other components such as a sound card.
Yes, the integrated graphics will be more than enough for what you need.
No, that's the monitors highest resolution, and no graphics card could change that.

Yes you can have the performance HDD attached to the 6Gb/s SATA port with that motherboard. To be honest i would go for both of them as perfromance drives as the price rise is marginal. What i would ask, do you need this machine to be super quiet? If so then the 'performance' HDD's can be a little loud if your really stressing them. I have a caviar black and if you really ask alot from it you can hear quite a noise. That said, i think the barracuda drives are slightly quieter.

I think the 350w model should be perfectly fine, even with that powerful CPU. Missing out on a dedicated GPU saves alot of power, even with a couple of hard drives etc you will be fine. If possible i would upgrade to the 450w just because it is listed as 'quiet' if your interested in that.

I would miss out on the dedicated GPU for your build as it wont be doing anything. Integrated is fine i use it myself and no problems to report.

As ashhol said, the max resolution of the monitor can't be changed by a better GPU.
