PC Restarting while in game

Hello,

I purchased a new PC a couple of months ago, specs at the bottom of this post. While playing league of legends (I rarely play other games), the PC randomly restarts. I put this down to perhaps an overheating CPU, so kept an eye on the temps, which rarely go above 70-90 deg C while in game. I have put the fans on full speed to assist with this and removed the boost overclock by restoring default settings in bios. I have also updated all of my drivers and tried removing software I thought may be causing issues, such as icue. I am really frustrated with this as it is a very high spec pc so wasn’t expecting any issues with it considering the amount of money it cost me. Any advice or tips much appreciated

Unforunately you've paid an awful lot of money for a lemon that's never going to work well, if at all

As we advised against it here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/just-ordered.96537/#post-736553

It wasn't advised against purely for giggles, or to be fanboysey, there were real world reasons why

Thanks will read through it. I may just see if I can return it/swap for something else then. Not happy with being sold a fault processor!

Your window to return it was months ago, it’s not PCSs fault, it’s those that bought into intels lies. You can RMA the processor, that won’t be an issue, the point is though that STILL Intel won’t push out the fixes required to sort this out for several reasons.

You can put some mitigations in place, not as a fix but to prove if silicon degradation has occurred. If it has then you need to RMA it and get the CPU replaced.

And then just pray Intel will actually do something in their fanboys interest for once in the last decade.

And in future it’s best to listen to advice

Should have a 3 year warranty on it according to the above. If anything I’d only want to replace the CPU anyway. But I’ll try some of the tips in your link, such as disabling hyper threading before doing anything.

No one sold you a faulty processor; PCS simply assemble what you request.
As already said, you were warned, you ignored the advice.
What can we do? 🤷‍♂️

The order was already made, please calm down and stop taking it personally that I went ahead with the order. I appreciate your advice on all of this, will do what I can to resolve

You could have returned it within 14 days of getting it without giving any reason

Correct and I’m wishing I had listened to the advice. You just don’t expect this to happen I guess. You live and learn.

3 year is for labour, not parts, you only ordered standard warranty so it's only 1 year parts coverage.

Really frustrating to see this happen, I just don't understand why people who have no idea on things post in a forum and then ignore everything said, it's actually insane if you ask me.

The reason I'm really pushing this forward is because to me (and I realise I'm very not the norm here), a PC is exactly the same as a small child, it needs nurturing and caring for, and understand what to put into it to get the most out.

So many people unfortunately treat them just like kids, as some badge of honour without any due care shown.

...and that's exactly why I don't have kids!

I get bored, and like to swap things out every year or so...maybe I should foster?

Something else you might have missed: if your RAM is clocked at it's maximum design speed of 6000MT/s via an XMP profile then you might want to revisit that. The maximum transfer speed that your i9-14900K will handle is 56000MT/s - see https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...rocessor-14900k-36m-cache-up-to-6-00-ghz.html, I see a fair few BSOD elsewhere that appear to have been caused by similar RAM overclocking.
Thanks for the tip, I have made the change in bios and will monitor (DRAM freq 6000mhz - 5600mhz)

FYI the RMA has been opened and the full system is being sent back to PCS so they can replace the CPU, hopefully this doesn’t take very long but I guess as long as the new chip works as intended it’ll be worth the wait

Be aware, the same thing is likely to happen to the replacement chip until Intel find a fix.

Intel have only just admitted that there's anything wrong, 6 months after major reports started hitting, they blamed board partners up until the last couple of weeks.

This is the latest
