Slower internet speeds on PC than laptop/phone etc

Morning,

I've had issues with the internet on my PC intermitently over the last couple of years. Originally I had a Realtek RTL8192EE network card, but updated to the AX200 on the Forum's advice, which did improve things. However, there are often times when the internet takes a good 5 minutes before it starts working on start-up. No such issues with my laptop(s).

I've recently bought Full Fibre 900Mb with Plusnet, but when I use speedtest, my average download speed on my personal PC is between 20-80mbps, however, on my work Surface Pro and girlfriend's laptop, speeds average 250Mbps. My work laptop and personal PC are next to each other, so I don't think it's an antenna issue. I only use Wi-Fi.

What I've done so far:
  • Upgraded network card
  • Installed the latest drivers
  • Run the following commands: netsh winsock reset, netsh int ip reset. ipconfig /flushdns.
  • netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal
  • I did look to see if Speed & Duplex is set to Auto Negotiation within the advanced network card properties, but it's not there.
  • Reset the TCP/IP Stack
When I was looking at the WiFi details on my PC, the only difference with my laptop that I could see was the link speed (receive/transmit).

PC: link speed (receive/transmit): 120/260 Mbps
Surface Pro: 650/520 Mbps

On both speedtest and WiFi it appears as Mbps.

I should add, when using speedtest on my PC, the download latency is around 350, whereas on my laptop it's 28.

I got the drivers from here: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/products/sku/189347/intel-wifi-6-ax200-gig/downloads.html

Thanks.
Are you running any VPN at all?

Can you upload a screenshot of your optional updates page from windows update?

Can you also take a screenshot of your network adapters page?

I would strongly suggest that as a temporary test you cable connect to the router and see how thing are then. This will clearly indicate whether the problem is a WiFi problem or a Windows networking problem. We need to know where the problem is before suggesting a sensible course of action.

I have.

However, I've looked at them again, and one of the antennas, at the bottom, can easily disconnect from its casing (not fully) and is quite loose. Could that be the culprit?

yeah definitely

Those I find are very very sensitive, if they are too loose or too tight they barely function at all
